Benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH, is a condition in which, as men get older, the prostate enlarges. BPH is very common and affects more than 500 million men worldwide—comprising over 40% of men in their 50s and over 70% of men in their 60s.

While BPH is a benign condition and unrelated to prostate cancer, it can greatly affect a man’s quality of life. It may be helpful to know you are not alone—among the nearly 40 million American men suffering from BPH symptoms, it is the leading reason for a visit to a urologist.

With over 17 years of practicing urology, Dr. Thomas Mueller has experience treating men suffering from BPH. After receiving his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Thomas Mueller is a member of many professional societies. Some of which include the American Urologic Association and the American College of Surgeons.

Contact Dr. Mueller today, because the sooner you start the process of evaluating and diagnosing your condition, the sooner you can expect symptom relief, allowing you to get back to your life and regular activities.

What is the UroLift System?

UroLift is a patented system used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is an enlargement of the prostate gland, which affects many men, typically those of an older age. This common condition makes it difficult to urinate as the prostate grows and constricts the flow of urine from the bladder to the urethra. Other problems of the urinary system can also occur as the result of an enlarged prostate.

How UroLift Works

During a simple in-office procedure, your urologist will be able to use the UroLift Delivery Device to insert UroLift Implants around the prostate. These implants work to lift the prostate and pull the edges of the prostate away from the urethra, leaving it open for improved urinary flow.

Benefits of the UroLift® System

UroLift possesses many advantages over traditional treatment methods, the primary being that no cuts or sutures are required with UroLift. A local anesthetic is typically all that patients need during their insertion procedure, and they can often return home soon after they are treated for BPH. This same-day procedure is performed right in our convenient office locations in Nashville.

Results of UroLift are also long lasting. No maintenance is needed, which gives patients the ability to quickly return to their regular activities with renewed control over their urinary system.

Other Conditions Caused by BPH

  • An inflamed prostate
  • Frequent urinary tract infections
  • Kidney stones
  • Bladder stones
  • Scarring of the bladder tissue
  • Urinary retention
  • Nerve damage near the bladder
  • Prostate cancer
