Rezum Water Therapy BPH Treatment in Vorhees, NJ

Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy

Rezūm is a specialized treatment used to relieve symptoms of an enlarged prostate, which is medically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. With an estimated 90% of all men over the age of 85 being diagnosed with BPH, it is a common condition that many men require effective treatment for1.

Typical BPH Treatment Options

Many doctors will recommend watchful waiting until a patient’s BPH symptoms have progressed far enough to warrant surgical intervention. Prescription medications can be very effective at alleviating these effects, though this daily regimen is much more cumbersome than treating the problem directly at its source. It is for this reason that men often consider surgery to resolve their problems associated with BPH. This option, however, can be risky and stressful for many patients.

Why Choose Rezūm

Rezūm water vapor therapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat BPH that has few side effects and does not require any kind of long-term maintenance or medication. Rezūm is performed using regular water vapor, or steam. This steam is applied to the excess tissue around the prostate in individual, 9-second treatments, which are administered one after another until all of the extra tissue has been addressed.

This procedure does not require the patient to be sedated under general anesthesia or remain in a hospital afterward for monitoring or testing. Instead, patients will typically be given pain medication beforehand to minimize any potential discomfort, and may also be advised to continue taking these medications in the first 24-48 hours following their treatment. Antibiotics are also commonly prescribed in order to avoid an infection. In total, men usually spend 2 hours from start to finish on the day of their Rezūm water vapor therapy.

Results from Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy

Following treatment, the destroyed tissue will dissipate and be removed from around the prostate through the body’s natural healing process. The water vapor is also absorbed by the body so that there is no need for a follow up treatment to remove any kind of assistive device.

Patients should begin to notice improvement in their symptoms within a couple of weeks and up until three months after their procedure. Men are often cleared to resume regular daily activities within the first week after treatment. These outcomes can vary on a case-by-case basis and should be evaluated and approved by your doctor.2
